Generation of Water Degasser
Used by Bioengineering Department, University Park, PA
Water degassers serve an essential purpose in ultrasound exposimetry. Regular tap water contains dissolved oxygen on the concentration order of 12 or more parts per million (ppm). The oxygen in water, when associated with ultrasound imaging, serves as an impediment to ultrasound transmission. In order to accurately test the equipment, normal tap water needs to be degassed to about 1 to 2 ppm of dissolved oxygen. The water degasser is used directly in-line with a tank circulating the water. This technology takes advantage of water interacting with surfaces encouraging the exchange of gases, as well as vacuum pump, which removes the gas that comes out of the tap water.
