What is a PIC?

The Automated- PRT will be controlled by a PIC that will receive information from its pushbutton sensors and send the appropriate  auditory or visual output based on these input signals. PIC is the name for the Microchip microcontroller (MCU) family, and are easily programmable cheap microcontrollers. They consist of a microprocessor, I/O ports, timer(s) and other internal, integrated hardware. The main advantage of using a PIC is its low external part count,  great availability of compilers and source code, and easy programming. PIC microcontrollers allow you to do things that would be difficult to do with discrete logic.
