About the Department

The Penn State Biomedical Engineering Department is one of the fastest growing departments within in the College of Engineering. Our curriculum is built upon the apex of engineering, medicine, healthcare policy and biological discovery. We prepare our students to become future leaders in the areas of medical device design, instrumentation, medical imaging, healthcare management, biomedical research and academia.

We offer both undergraduate degree programs in biomedical engineering, and graduate degree programs in bioengineering (offered as part of the Intercollege Graduate Degree Program). Our faculty hold primary appointments in the Eberly College of Science; and the Colleges of Earth and Mineral Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine.

We strive to offer a comprehensive and interdisciplinary education that positions Penn State graduates for optimal success. All programs are fully accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET.

About

The Department of Biomedical Engineering administers the undergraduate major in biomedical engineering, and is a part of the university-wide Intercollege Graduate Degree Program, offering both M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Bioengineering. Our work combines traditional engineering principles with medicine and technology for the betterment of human health and society.
