Cell and Molecular Bioengineering

Biophotonics is the use of laser light to probe molecular dynamics and interactions in model and physiological systems Penn State biomedical engineering houses advanced instrumentation for ultrafast laser spectroscopy, high-speed confocal imaging, optical traps, and total internal reflection fluorescence microscopy. Research applications are in mechanobiology of membranes and endothelial cells, cancer, molecular motors, and assessment of signal transduction pathways.

About

The Department of Biomedical Engineering administers the undergraduate major in biomedical engineering, and is a part of the university-wide Intercollege Graduate Degree Program, offering both M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Bioengineering. Our work combines traditional engineering principles with medicine and technology for the betterment of human health and society.
