Why Penn State Biomedical Engineering?

We understand there are many factors to consider when choosing a degree program that will ultimately shape your future career path. Penn State offers all the amenities of a large research university while maintaining one-on-one instruction and support. We encourage engaged, collaborative learning and position our students for long term success.

Our curriculum combines traditional engineering with biology and medicine to prepare students for a variety of career paths

Graduates of the Penn State Biomedical Engineering program have enjoyed successful careers in medical device design, pharmaceuticals, medical imaging, and other health and engineering industries. A number of graduates have also gone on to pursue advanced degrees in medicine and engineering sciences.

Our students have access to global experiences both on and off campus

In 2015, the department launched its first global capstone learning initiative. Biomedical Engineering students were partnered with engineering students at Shanghai Jiao Tong University in Shanghai, China to develop real-world solutions for corporate sponsors. Our students also have access to a number of study abroad opportunities.

We have a number of professional societies that allow for growth and development outside of the classroom

Students have access to speakers, conferences, competitions, and leadership opportunities. They also have access to a network of more than 645,000 Penn State alumni throughout the world who can open doors and provide new opportunities.
