Hotaik Lee is a Ph.D. candidate in Program in Acoustics at the Pennsylvania State University. He received his BS and MS degrees in Precision Mechanical Engineering from Hanyang University, Seoul, Korea in 1992 and 1994 respectively. His master's thesis was the "A study on a diagnosis of rotating machinery using neural network with bispectrum." After his MS study, he worked for six years at R & D Center in Samsung Electronics, Suwon, Korea as an acoustics engineer. His research interests are in diagnostic/therapeutic ultrasound transducers and computational acoustics. He is currently involved in "Development of Simulation Tools for Medical Ultrasound Transducer with a Non-ideal Response" sponsored by Sound Technology Inc. (State College, PA, www.sti-ultrasound.com). Ideally this will allow engineers to set specifications in a more quantitative manner and improve image performance. hzl118@psu.edu

Eun-Joo Park became the member of the Ultrasound Therapeutic Applications Lab in Fall 2004. She received her BS and MS degrees in Physics (Physical Acoustics) from Sung Kyun Kwan University, Seoul, Korea in 1996 and 1998 respectively. Also, she received another MS degree in Mechanical Engineering (Underwater Acoustics) from Boston University, Boston, MA in 2003. Her 1st master’s thesis was the “Thermal effect of ultrasound enhancer in transdermal insulin delivery” and 2nd master’s thesis was “Acoustic characterization of saturated sediments using a thick-walled, water-filled impedance tube”. After she got her 2nd master, she worked at the Focused Ultrasound Lab in Brigham & Women’s Hospital, Boston, MA for six months as a volunteering researcher. Now, she is working for her Ph. D degree in Bioengineering. Her research interests are therapeutic applications of ultrasound, especially for therapy of diabetic. The main part of her research is using ‘cymbal’ array for transdermal insulin delivery system which can be the foundation of medical device for diabetes.  (eup114@psu.edu)

Justin Kao (hzk114@psu.edu)
Han (Justin) Kao was granted his full scholarship from the Department of Defense, Taiwan and joined the Therapeutic Ultrasound Group in the Fall of 2004. He received his B.S. degree in Civil Engineering from Virginia Military Institute, Lexington, Virginia, in 1997 and the M.S. in Engineering of Acoustics from Naval Postgraduate School, Monterey, California, in 2002. His master's thesis was centralized on the "Numerical Analysis of Bottom Reverberation and the Influence of Density Fluctuations." He is presently a graduate student working towards the Ph.D. degree in Bioengineering. His current research interests include ultrasound imaging and transducer development.
